Walkin' With The Grands
Walkin' With The Grands

First off, let me wish everyone Season's Greetings from my home to yours. I'm finally finding the time to put some thoughts in print, as a recap to a year of many high's, and yes, a few low's too.

As most of you know, I spent the first four months of the year putting the finishing touches on the editing, and eventual publication of my autobiography. Looking back on that process, it has become one of the singular most exciting, yet difficult ventures of my life; but I can assure you, it was worth every moment. Overall, from concept to distribution, it took five solid years of my life to complete the cycle. I wouldn't change a thing.

The spring and part of the summer months were spent travelling throughout the eastern half of the country, from Nova Scotia to Ontario and back, visiting friends, family and many others, doing several book signings and generally, getting the message out there that you don't have to be famous to write your story! You are meaningful enough to have the world know who and what you are all about. Yes, each and everyone of us matters. As I told many people this past year, you can't begin to write your story until you pen the first word. Don't sweat the details, and don't worry about getting it published. All of that can come at a later date, if you choose to go in that direction. The important thing is getting it written, even if it's in rough form. Your children, grandchildren, and future family will be grateful for your historical efforts. Just do it!

This endevour was never to get rich. I had a story to tell and I accomplished that. As of the end of this year, my book has been read by many hundreds of people, and in several countries around the world. I have heard from places such as Australia, England, Spain, Argentina, Germany, South Korea, to name a few, and of course, all over the United States and Canada. I am truly humbled and grateful for the support. I also continue to receive very favourable comments from you, good readers! Thanks! My biggest take-away from all of this is the way many of you have told me how my words and stories have touched you in such a way as to evoke an emotion, a memory, or a healing mindset. All of that is payment enough. Again, thank you.

Life sometimes throws curveballs at you when you least expect it. I ended up travelling back to southwestern Ontario in October to attend a Celebration of Life for a very dear friend (and mentor) who passed from this life, way to young. When situations like this arise, I do my best to take the time to grieve, and then reflect on how this human impacted my life. In this particular case, the impact was immeasurable. R.I.P, my friend. The silver lining to this tragic event was that I got to spend more quality time with my grandkids and family; always good for the soul.

Most recently, I have just completed a necessary surgical procedure on both my eyes. The healing has begun and I am eternally grateful for our Canadian medical program and the fine doctors and specialists who were in my corner.

So, looking back, it was a productive year in general...except, not so much on the photography side of things. Sometimes we need to take a step back from that which we have been focused on for so long. The pause in those familiar activities can have a positive effect on future creative output; at least, that is what I'm telling myself! After-all, there is a whole new year ahead of us!

Speaking of the year ahead....I have already started to formulate plans for another grand adventure. For those of you who know me well, I am not one for staying still for very long. When I get a few more details worked out, I will be sure to let everyone know what's in store for this happy wanderer in 2025. It's going to be awesome!

To wrap this one up, I just want to say: ya'll are the best! Thanks for being you, and never stop!

Cheers to a fabulous new year: 2025!!
